2 years ago I moved into a tiny home with zero intention of having a baby. But in May of 2019 I found out my full tiny home (fiance, dog, and cat) would have to make room for a new member. We were living a simple, eco-friendly life and I immediately feared that we no longer could do that with a baby.
Lo and behold, after TONS of research I realized it is easier to be a simple natural mama than to buy all the products we feel pressured to get. I’ve already saved thousands of dollars by choosing to have a pregnancy with a eco-conscious mindset.
As I prepare for my new bundle of love by buying all the “necessities” I can’t express how easy it has been to find alternatives to expensive products or just cut them out all together.
Keep reading below to find how you can live a life more simple and earth friendly with a baby on board.
This is such a strange transition in our world today. But have you ever thought to yourself, “why do we always dispose of our paper towels?”
I’ve been beyond happy with our switch to reusable towels and have found it incredibly easy to keep up with the “extra” laundry. Plus, now I never have to think about buying these from the store. Ever.
We wash ourselves with towels and then throw them in the laundry. Why aren’t we doing the same with our messes? Unpaper towels are such an impactful way to reduce your waste.
These are also another option to the “unpaper” towel that resemble a paper towel a little better. I haven’t tried these out myself, but would love to hear from you if you have tried this product!
I first heard about this company by getting gifted it myself. The products that they use are all the good ones you can pronounce and commonly find. They even send your refills in a biodegradable carton and try to keep their carbon footprint as low as possible. The next time you need to get a new laundry detergent, dish washing detergent, all-purpose cleaner, or hand soap, think of Cleancult for a lifetime supply!
I recommend these ones because they offer a variety of sizes so that your 8 oz. mug isn’t overwhelmed with a 16 oz. straw. Most people don’t think twice about straws– and it is especially hard when you are out and about. I’ll admit that I still struggle remembering to use mine. But eco-conscious living isn’t about being perfect. It is about doing little things that add up to big impacts. Keep these in a bag that you frequently take with you and you will have plenty of straws to go around!
Looking for something that is a little more portable? Check out this collapsible straw.
Whether you’re a traveling family or just frequently get out, having a towel that is super absorbent and light is a must-have. This Sea to Summit towel was a trusty item as I traveled in my early 20s and continues to help me out!
It is an ultra fast drying towel that can be used virtually anywhere. When I travel I make sure and bring this towel. It has even been a trusty multi-use companion when I needed a blanket to wrap in, a pillow, and even a mat to lay on the floor. It makes traveling and camping a breeze when you don’t have a clunky towel.
These products are all natural and will leave your hair feeling silky smooth and frizz free! I love these products and love even more that I can refill them and not waste hundreds of bottles.
Huh? Yup. Nuts.
The most unique product that actually works! Just check out this post all about soap nuts and gift yourself a cleaner, easier laundry routine.
If I had enough kitchen space I would have over 20 mugs because there are just so many that I love. However, you only really need one or two so a mug that is functional and dependable will keep you from buying more. Every mama needs a hot drink in their life, and a hot drink to-go is even better.
Start composting this year! Does this feel like a big jump for you? Or maybe you have always wanted to but didn’t know which compost bin to get? Fear not– give them this blog post to read and learn the many uses of composting.
I’m pretty sure we all aspire to pack our own lunches every day and live that real sustainable life. I found that once I invested in a compact lunch box I actually started to bring lunch to work every day. And kids can easily use this one, too. If you work or have kids then you need this lunch box. I love how convenient, compact, and easy to clean it is. Win, win, win!
This has to be one of the cooler gifts to give yourself. Fresh herbs any season? No more running to the store last minute? It is well worth the price tag and you can customize the herbs you grow. Not to mention, it will bring so much greenery to your kitchen and add to the ambiance.
This product will make cleaning so much easier in the long run. It does a good job cleaning up excess hair on clothes and is easy to clean off. If you have a dog or pet in your life I highly recommend getting this to keep the hair less of a mess.
Adventure seekers and park lovers will appreciate this compact doggy bowl. It’s sleek and compact making it possible to take this on any adventure with a dog.
Paperless, reusable, digital, and convenient. This notebook is probably not something you would think you need, but whether it is for work or personal life this techie notebook will be your new sidekick. Plus,, you will never have to buy another note taker ever again!
I could rave about these bags all day. They are truly so versatile and compact. I love the feeling of reusing a quality bag over and over again. It doesn’t contain smell so that it can be used for all types of foods.
My favorite feature is how they can go from freezer to fridge to microwave or oven. I’ve reduced my Ziploc bag consumption SO much thanks to these silicone bags.
This may still be a new trend to adopt, but it really does last much longer than a bottle of shampoo and is 10x less waste. I’ve switched to these and it was pretty effortless. Now I am getting so much more out of a single bar and not having to deal with plastic bottles. Natural mamas– you will definitely want to give this a try in 2020.
